As the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) celebrates its 30th Anniversary, we’d like you to invite you to join in the celebration by becoming Library Champions.
Library Champions are patrons who love their libraries and want to be in the know about issues that may affect them. Library Champions’ email addresses will be entered into a distribution list. When important library issues arise BCCLS will email the Library Champions. The Champions can then take appropriate action such as phone calls, emails to legislators or simply talking up the library.
All you have to do is go to http://www.bccls.org/champions and enter your name and home town and either an email address, and then click on the "Join the Champions" button.
Libraries are facing a myriad of challenges and budgets are tenuous at best. We need people to act as our advocates and stand up for the libraries that have come under increased pressure because of the economic crisis, security concerns in the wake of 9/11, Internet access issues and more. Now more than ever, those who believe most strongly in the importance of our libraries are needed to be advocates for us.
Our goal for the 30th Anniversary is 30 Champions for each BCCLS library.

Soft Skull Press At Wood-Ridge Memorial Library
Soft Skull Press is an independent book publisher founded in Brooklyn, N. Y. by controversial figure Sander Hicks in 1992.
Originally serving as a guerilla publishing effort featuring books that represent the future of public intellectual and literary discourse, Soft Skull Press since 2007 has been a subsidiary of Counterpoint LLC, where it continues to publish an array of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.
In 2001 Richard Nash became the publisher of Soft Skull Press and has since provided stability while continuing the mission of producing and promoting provocative titles in a number of genres.
In June 2007 Wood-Ridge Memorial Library Director John J. Trause met publisher Richard Nash at the book party for David Silverman’s Typo : The Last American Typesetter, published by Soft Skull Press, and the latter donated to Wood-Ridge Memorial Library a number of titles to compliment the few that were already in the Library’s collection.
Featured in the Library’s Display Case of the Friends Reading Room are some of these books. More are available in the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) Catalog.

The Availability of the Aladdin Personal Reader
Wood-Ridge Memorial Library has an Aladdin Personal Reader (magnifying machine) to serve our visually impaired patrons. The Wood-Ridge Lions Club made a donation to the Library of the Aladdin Personal Reader for those members of the public who might need such a device to help them read books, important personal documents, or anything else that they would have trouble reading.
The Lions also donated a wheeled table on which the Aladdin Personal Reader sits. The Reader is installed in the archway of the Old Building at the end of the Reference section for easy access.
